Repairing Older Naples Pools

Naples has been building swimming pools for a long time, and a lot of the ones we work on have been in the ground for decades. That is a different repair picture from the newer subdivisions north of here.

An older concrete swimming pool has usually had work done before. It may be on its second or third plaster surface, the plumbing may have been patched at some point, and the tile line has had years of chemistry running across it. The equipment is often the same age as the shell, so pool equipment repair tends to come up in the same conversation. Repairs on a pool like that are less about one obvious failure and more about understanding what has already been done to it and what is finally wearing through.

Older shells also tend to move in small ways over time as the ground around them settles. That is where a lot of Naples leaks come from, not a dramatic crack but a slow separation at a skimmer throat or a fitting that has been under steady stress for years.

None of this makes an older pool a problem. Plenty of them outlast newer ones. It just means whoever looks at yours should be reading its history rather than guessing at it, which is how we approach an older pool. Pools on weekly maintenance in Naples come with that history already written down, visit by visit.

Repair or Resurface

On an older pool this is usually the real question, and it is worth understanding before anyone quotes you.

A repair addresses a specific failure. A crack, a leak at a fitting, a section of damaged plaster. It is the right answer when the surface around the problem is still sound.

Resurfacing replaces the whole interior finish. It is the right answer when the plaster has thinned out across the pool rather than failed in one place, when patches are appearing faster than they can be chased, or when the surface has gone rough enough that you can feel it underfoot everywhere rather than in one spot.

The mistake we see most often is a run of separate patch repairs on a pool that needed resurfacing two years earlier. Each one was reasonable on its own. Together they cost more than doing it once.

We will tell you which one you are looking at, including when the answer is that your pool has years left in it as it stands.

What Homeowners in Naples Say

Pool Repair Common Questions

How fast can someone come out?

Same day or next day in most cases.

My pool is from the seventies. Is it worth repairing?

Usually, yes. Age alone is not the deciding factor, and plenty of older Naples pools are in better shape than newer ones. We will tell you honestly what we find.

How do I know if it is a leak or evaporation?

A level dropping noticeably faster than the weather explains is the usual sign. Describe what you are seeing and we can often tell before coming out.

Do you have to drain the pool?

Usually not. Most repairs are done with the pool full, and draining a concrete shell here carries risk we would rather avoid.

Do you repair vinyl liner or above-ground pools?

No. In-ground concrete only.

Can you take over weekly service afterward?

Yes. Many customers start with a repair and stay on a weekly plan from there.
