Plenty of the swimming pools we clean in Fort Myers have nothing over them, and cleaning an open pool is a different job from cleaning a screened one.
Everything that lands on the water gets there directly. Leaves, grass clippings, pollen, dust, and whatever the last storm carried all go straight in, so the surface needs real skimming rather than a pass with the net. Full sun is the other half of it. Chlorine breaks down quickly in direct light, so an open-air pool is running with less protection by the end of the week than a shaded one. The cleaning routine leans harder on testing and adjusting because of it, and a week is genuinely the longest this kind of pool should go between visits.

On an open pool the filter is doing more work than most people realise, and it is the part that quietly decides whether the water looks good.
Everything that blows in has to come out somewhere. The skimmer catches what floats, but the fine material, the dust, the pollen, the broken-down organic matter, all ends up in the filter. On a pool with no cage over it that load is constant rather than seasonal.
A filter running at higher pressure is moving less water, and a pool turning over less water needs more chemical to hold the same line. So a filter nobody is watching quietly makes everything else harder and more expensive.
That is why we check pressure on every visit rather than whenever the water looks off, and why we rinse on the filter's schedule rather than the calendar's. Staying ahead of it is cheaper than catching up with it.
